Charles Pugin


The French artist  Charles Pugin was also a draughts man and a writer. Pugin worked closely with various artists one of them being Thomas Rowlandson. he worked alot by using alot of gothic architecture. he has alot of works in Great Britain and London which consist both of drawings and structural commissions. This artist has been leading the the othic revival in the 19th century.

Édouard Manet

The French artist Edward Manet was one of the first artists to paint in a modern and post modern style in the 19th century. He was also an important figure for Realism.Manet made a name mostly with his earlier works which included "olympia" and "The Luncheon on the Grass".

Early Christian Art

Christian art and architecture has been along for along time since at around the 2nd Century.Byzantine art is a branch of christian art. It is very hard to know when this type of architecture and art formed as there are a lot of elements against the dating of artefacts as a lot of them didn't survive all these years.

Gothic Revival in America





The architectural movement called the gothic revival. This movement started in the mid 1700s back in London. In the 19th century this movement had a rapid growth in popularity and it revived the medieval Gothic architecture.

Jim Fitzpatrick



                                                 
This Irish artist was inspired by celtic art.Nowadays this piece of art in the picture is one of the most popular works. This monochrome portrait of Alberto Kodra was done in 1968. today you will find this print on everything as it is an art icon for this time.

Japanese Art

Japanese art is one of the oldest genres of art and is one of the most delicate and detailed works. japanese paintings always tell a story about the artist or  client. these paintings have very touching meanings behind them and usually have a story behind them. Japanese art was mostly influenced by Chinese art that later on inspired western countries at around the 19th century onwards.

William Morris

The British artist William Morris was not only a good artist but he was also a textile designer and a writer aswell. This all rounder worked hand in hand with sir Edward Burne Jones as partners with the Pre Raphelite Brotherhood. With some help from Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Sir Edward Burne Jones they managed to start decorating churches and houses in the early 20th century.

Japonisme




From the name you realise that Japonisme is influenced highly by japan and its culture. A big part that started it all was from wood block prints. This was the inspiration of most European painters. this then evolved into Art Nouvaue and also in cubism. this art unfortunately had flat colours , a bad lack of perspective, no shadows and strong colours.

Sir Edward Burn Jones

The British artist and also a well know designer  Sir Edward Burne Jones was a big part of the Pre Raphelite movement who then later worked hand in hand with William Morris. They did a lot of things together. It was Jones and Morris who introduced Stained glass artwork to the british islands. A beautiful religious work found in the Trinity Church in Boston. This work shows skill and precession to do. Jones was later on pressured into doing eight oil paintings that were to be exhibited at the Grosvenor Gallery. These commissions included the Beguiling of merlin and other prestigious works.

Victorian Arts



The Victorian era was a very decorative and ornamental era. The victorian styles were very eclectic and mostly influenced by Asian Art. Japanese style and Art Nouvaue both began in the Victorian era

The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood







The Pre-Raphaelite movement was a group of artists who favoured the art that came before Michelangelo and Raphael. They thought that they could reform art and society through their art and therefore chose the purity and simplicity of Medieval art. The main artists were Holman Hunt ,John Everett Millais and Dante Gabriel Rossetti.

Gustave Courbet

The well known  French painter Gustave Courbet left a big impact on the realist movement back in the 19th century . his paintings were best associated to realism Courbet painted mostly figures, landscapes and seascapes. He usually used to paint from life so he used to feel and see the suffering poor people go trough. Courbet painted like this for a reason that being to "help erase social contradictions and imbalances"
